Dog Licensing Requirements
The City of Gary requires all dogs to have a current dog license. Annual dog licenses are good from Jan 1- Dec 31, each year, you need a new license for each dog you own.
Dog License Costs:
- Unaltered pit bulls- $35
- Altered non pit bull $ 8
- Unaltered non pit $15
You will need to show:
- Current rabies certificate- either a 1 year or 3 year certificate
- Homeowners or Renters’ Insurance- For pit bulls or or pit bull mixed breeds, or for any documented or reported bite dog (dog that has bitten anyone) you will need to show $500,000 liability insurance- whether homeowners or rental insurance, the $500,000 liability requirement is the same.
