On April 9th, 2025, Gary Police Department Investigations Division filed charges with the Lake County Prosecutor's Office against Romaldo Bruno, age 27 from Gary and Alayla Delgado age 26 also from Gary in reference to a case involving the neglect of their 5 children, all who are under the age of ten (10) years old.

On April 6th, 2025, at approximately 9:15 am Gary Police Department responded to a 911 hang up call from a child to a residence in the 400 block of East 33rd Ave. in Gary, Indiana. Upon arrival officers spoke with Alayla Delgado and she allowed officers into the residence to check the residence and the children to make sure all was well due to the nature of the call.  Officers documented in their report that they found the inside of the residence to be deplorable and unsuitable for living. Due to this, officers cleared the residence and requested the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) for immediate assistance.

At approximately 2pm. DCS responded and requested the assistance of Gary Police Department. Officials observed one of the children had visible bruising consistent with physical abuse.  DCS took custody of all the children due to the unsafe conditions of the residence.  The mother, Alayla Delgado, was taken into custody for charges of Neglect of Dependent.

On April 7th, 2025, at 4:30 pm. the father, Romaldo Bruno, was taken into custody by Gary Police officers at the DCS office located at 661 Broadway,  when he arrived to speak with DCS investigators.  Bruno was arrested for charges of Battery and Neglect of a Dependent.

The Gary Police Department Investigation Division secured 5 counts of Neglect of a Dependent (a level 6 Felony) against Alayla Delgado and 7 counts against Romaldo Bruno.  Bruno was charged with Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury to a person less than 14 yrs of age (a level 5 felony), Domestic Battery (a level 6 Felony) and 5 counts of Neglect of a Dependent (a level 6 Felony).

The children received medical treatment and were released to the custody of DCS who currently has custody of the five (5) children.
